Peon Press - Reviews

If you've spent any time in the CP message boards, or even searching ways to improve your shop on Google, you've probably at least heard of CPshop . If you're a non geek though, you may have been a bit intimidated by phrases such as "Perl Script", "compatible server", or even "installation".

It's true - with limited experience these things can seem a bit confusing. The good news is, help is available. Marty offers installation and setup for a small fee, and Peon Productions offers it to CP template clients. Once the program is properly installed, it's actually quite simple to use. CPshop is jam packed with features that are not yet available at CP such as a currency converter, filters that can allow for some pretty impressive navigation, and more.

One of the most important things that CPshop offers, however, is the ability to host your store on your own web hosting account/server. If this already sounds confusing, think of it this way: What do you think is better, http://www.cafepress.com/mycooltshits, or www.mycooltshirts.com? True, you can simply forward any domain to a CP store, but hosting your own shop gives you the traffic. The white CP bar does not appear in your store except during cart/checkout, and the footer is a lot smaller. (it can even be removed for a fee)

If all that wasn't enough to convince you, take the VB change and section limits into account. With CPshop  you can pull several stores into one, virtually eliminating the section limit. The VB change is designed to encourage shopkeepers to market their own stores rather than rely on the CP marketplace for sales, and this is certainly a smart way to do that. (think branding)

Finally, for those who are more focused on affiliate shops, CPshop is a very easy way to tie several of your affiliate stores in to one mega-mall.  All you need to do is select the stores (or even sections/products) you want to affiliate with, and enter your CJ PID into CPshop.

CPshop is available for only $19.77. To purchase, click HERE .

Peon Press - Tutorials

One of the most important factors in a successful CafePress store layout (template) is easy navigation. If it takes your customers too long to figure out how to get to what they want, they'll give up and go elsewhere.

With premium shops, CafePress has long included the <cpstore:producttypedropdown> tag in their default template, which automatically generates a drop-down menu that makes it quick and easy to view all of a certain product type. (mugs, ringer t-shirts, etc.) Unfortunately, it is currently ill supported and often doesn't get updated with new products in a timely manner.

Luckily "Teesed", a CafePress message board moderator and well-known CP genious has come to the rescue. He has provided (free of charge) a nifty little javascript version of the dropdown menu. It's pretty easy to use, and customizable both in look and function.

Information and instructions on how to use the dropdown are located at http://cafewish.com/cptools/bagoscripts.html#productdropdown. Please be sure to donate something to this guy - he deserves it, and it really does help pave the way for more free tools in the future.
